Why India Banned Chinese Apps?
- Ministry of information and technology recently received many complaints regarding the security of 130 crore Indians data and privacy security.
- The deadly clash between the two most populous countries left 20 Indian armies and an unknown Chinese army.
- these apps were “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order”.
What Officials Say?
India’s Ministry of Information Technology has said the ban was the result of “many complaints from various sources” about apps that were “stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner”.
Many of the Chinese apps have been linked to controversies over data privacy, and have been accused of sharing sensitive information with the Chinese government.
The ban has been enforced under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 (“Power to issue directions for blocking for public access of any information through any computer resource”):
“Where the Central Government or any of its officers specially authorized by it… is satisfied that it is necessary or expedient so to do, in the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the State, friendly relations with foreign states or public order or for preventing incitement to the commission of any cognizable offense relating to above, it may… by order, direct any agency of the Government or intermediary to block for access by the public or cause to be blocked for access by the public any information generated, transmitted, received, stored or hosted in any computer resource.”

In my view, I think the Government’s decision is correct. If we use these Chinese apps they are collecting all our details like age, gender, and some personal data. which do not have any security, and few of the apps like TikTok are misusing. And Defense is getting into the trouble day by day. So I think it is better to safeguard the privacy and data of the citizens.
